What are some of the best scholarships/loans to apply for to attend school?

Loans an scholorships are two very different areas.

Scholorships are a gift that do not need to be payed back. I'd apply to every single on you can find! You can even start applying to scholorships before you even begin thinking about college.

After applying to as many scholorships your heart desires, fill out a FAFSA form. That will determine wether you're eligable for any government grants (also mostly free %26quot;gifts%26quot;) and any government funded loans.

Good ones to look up are the Stafford Loan, PLUS loan (if your parents will be helping you) and Perkins Loans.

Stafford Subsidized- the government pays your interest while in school and durring your grace period. This is based on financial need, so fill out that FAFSA!

Stafford Unsubsidized- you pay the entire interest and loan off. Interest may be tax deductable. Both are based on need- not credit history.

Perkins Loan- awarded and given to you by your school of choice; this has a fixed 5% interest rate and a long 9 month grace period.

PLUS Loan- (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) are taken out by the parents of a student. This does not have a grace period and does not require a FAFSA to be filled out for this loan.

Other tips- shop around for some different lenders. Your school can automatically assign you one of their choosing, but that lender may not be the best option for you. So make some phone calls.

My Student Aid blog (Toryforpresident.com) has articles on loans that I think would help you out. I also put down some links of cool lenders that you may want to call. Also, check out that scholorship page. If you're still in highschool or college ask your guidance couselors for help finding scholorships. It's part of their job to help you get some free $$!

The school itself is a good source of scholarship and grant money.

Once you have been accepted, they will give you grants based upon your parents income, if you are a dependent, or your own income if you are financially independent. Also, once you have been accepted, there may be scholarships that the school offers that you can apply for.

Many scholarships and/or grants have specific requirements which could have to do with country of origin, race/ethnicity, parents' association with certain fields of work or unions, clubs, etc.,
