Can i still qualify for home loan?

my husband and i have school loans mine is in deferrment at the moment i will be going back to online classes this fall and he is currently in school right now and will be until probably aug of '09 so his sallie mae will also be in deferrment. my question is how does this affect what a person will qualify for in a mortgage? will the fact that you are not making payments affect your debt to income ration? hurt or help? would it be better to pay some of it down so that my payments will be lower when i do apply for home loan some good info would be helpful for my financial planning ? Thanks!

Can i still qualify for home loan?

Your best anwer will not come from this site where people tend to answer whether they are qualified to or not.

Go to a lender in your area and go over all the relevant facts and he/she will go over things with you and give you an ACCURATE reply.

Good luck

It is not a good idea to pay loans that you are able to defer, particularly if the interest is also in deferment. The lender will take into account that your income is not needed to pay the deferred loans now, but will be needed later. Only the lender can tell you whether you will qualify for the home loan.
