Isn't it unsafe to give your ss# over the internet? I've been trying to apply for loans, e

are asking for date of birth %26amp; social security number. Is that safe?

While it is common to have to give personal information such as a SSN to apply for a loan it is also a risk online.

You should NEVER type your SSN into a window opened from a link in an e-mail address for example. Most reputable businesses will never request personal information from an e-mail.

So, assuming you were the one to type an address and go there to apply for a loan, check for a %26quot;s%26quot; at the end of the %26quot;https://%26quot; as this indicates a (more)secure protocol is being used.

Also consider checking if the site has an active %26quot;verisign%26quot; certificate or a bizrate.com ranking.

The best protection however, is to monitor actively your credit report through all three major credit agencies(trans-union, equifax and experian), or at the least, request a free annual copy(some states).

No its not safe.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. You never know who is getting a hold of your number

I wouldn't do it directly. Usually, when you use your credit or debit account to purchase something online, they wont ask for your ss#. In any case, only your last 4 digits will be requested.

If it'sany more than that, don't use the source unless you know it's reliable.

You need to make sure that the website is 100% authentic. If you have questions about a site's credibility, see if they have a contact number and give them a call to make sure.

These days you have to be so very careful. Stolen identities are becoming a very common occurance, and you definitely don't want to fall victim to any predators.

My very best advice is that if you need a loan, try your local bank first-- actually go in and sit down with a rep. It's the safest thing you can do to protect yourself while trying to get your loan.

You have to be very cautious. Personally I wouldn't do it unless I knew with 100% certainty that it was a legitimate loan agency. You advertised that you needed a loan on Yahoo Answers, so its no surprise that you might get people sending you e-mail and trying to trick you into giving out your info.

try to avoid doing it if possible. If you need to make sure it is a site that you can trust, and never enter any personal information after clicking a link from an email. Even if the email looks official.

no it isnt safe at all, alot of thefts out there and con artists posing as loan places and all ,and all they do is to steal ur money from ur bank using ur social securtiy number and other info they can contain by using ur ssn, so be safe never use it on here. if u need loans try to do it in person.

if you have the option only provide the last 4 digits (they are used for tracking only, and no major information can be attained through these). If you are really concerned, just go into a bank or do it over the telephone.

generally: never give your entire social over the internet

First, before ever giving any personal information. Check to see if the site is secure. You can tell if the URL has the letter s after the http. If it shows https, then it is a secure site.

You never ever give your personal information to anybody or any company you don't trust. U.S. bank system has so many weakness. You don't know what's going to happen if someone else has your name, ssn, bank info, credit card info, and all that. Your bank account may be empted out, credit cards maxed out, may loose every asset you got, and sleep on the streets. Scammers are everywhere. If you have watched dateline NBC 'catch the predator', you might know already about how seriously and how many victims got hurt. Someone from far away overseas Nigeria who's got your name/ssn, banks may not verify his face biologically, maybe walking his pockets full of your money, while you cry over spilt milk.
