In graduate school and funding has ran out. Can't find a job. Can't get a loan. What can I

Hello. I am a physics PhD. Student. All my funding comes from loans. Last semester I ran out of money at the end and big bills piled up. My roommate went berserk and I had to move her out. Paying all the rent and the back bills has wiped me out.

I have been looking for a job all month. I have applied for any job I could find advertised that I was remotely able to do. Jobs which would take care of the bills while I worked all weekend and three days a week. All I am ever offered is full time work that would requirer I drop out of school. This is not a solution because It's work that would not pay enough to take care of my expenses and student loan payments.

I have tried to get a supplemental loan like through Astrive or Myrichuncle.com but they want a cosigner. My mother has cosigned in the past but she will not do it this time. It's not like I have been flunking out of school I have a 3.2 GPA.

I am at the end of my rope and open to any and all suggestions.

Go to your school's career placement office - they get positions from companies that are seeking students and they should have other resources to help you get a job.

Sometimes it takes a LOT longer than a month to find a job. My first job after graduating with my Masters degree was working at the WalMart automotive dept. Whatever it takes to pay the bills... part time is okay, just maybe not what you were expecting.

Physics means a calculating mind. usually. Downsize your expenses while pursuing any income opportunity.

Do not over think the obvious. That is a pointless endeavor and a waste of resources.

You could go to the Temp Agency, manpower or somesuch thing every day that you are able to, apply for work that fits your schedule between, before or after classes.

College towns are tight on the workforce, all those fresh young minds and no guns to clean or oil.

There are two sources for student loans -- the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In most%26lt;!--instances the FAFSA is required for all federal financial aid including federal student loans. Deferment options are available while you are still attending school at least half-time. There are four main federal loan programs.

Federal loan consolidation is for students who are in repayment status or parents who wish to extend the repayment period on their current PLUS and obtain a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan--%26gt;you can combine all of your eligible federal student loans into one loan with a Federal Consolidation Loan. Consolidating also locks the interest rate you pay on your loan.

Try a temp agency, waiting tables, bartending, signing on with a moving agency, being a security guard, whatever it takes! Try out listings like idealist.org, craigslist.org, etc. And never underestimate the power of word-of-mouth! Talk to all your friends, professors, colleagues, etc. and tell them you are looking for part time work. They'll help spread the word and get you interviews.

Also, you might want to talk to the dean of your school and tell them that you might have to leave due to financial issues, and ask whether they can provide a scholarship or work-study for a semester or more.

Good luck!
